WAHUNDURA HIGH SCHOOL

BOG CHAIRMAN'S REPORT YEAR 2010
On 28-3-2009,we launched the schools five year strategic plan.

A new vision and mission statement on the corporate direction of the school was again set that broadly states Wahundura High School wants to go and the strategy for getting there.

The six score values represent our principles, ideals, and the fiber that runs through to hold our mission together.

Our score values that serve to guide the thinking, actions and governing processes of the school include:

a) Integrity  - We value honesty and trust worthiness and uphold it across the board and with all our stake holders.Suggestion box and website were launched to enhance communication.Several talks on integrity were held during the year.

b) Efficiency  - We made sure that our ends were met within the most economical and optimal use of our resources. We paid up most of our old suppliers some dating back to 2006 and regained confidence in them.Sourcing of materials and food stuffs were efficiently done.We managed to buy a 51 seater school bus with the help of parents.

We reconstructed two dormitories gutted by fire.Improved distribution of water and installed storage tanks at various points.

We purchased a printer and copier that has been efficient in printing exams for the students.

C) CommitmentCommitment  requires action. Our sound set of beliefs that we formulated will set out our actions that we did the following:-

  1. -Construction of  a basketball field which is operational.
  2. -Construction of a chain link fence supported by a live kei- apple at the North, south and Eastern side of the school, and entire fencing of the whole school with barbed wire.
This has improved discipline by restricting students sneaking out and the public entry of the school (security).
  3. -We fundraised for the construction of a modern library and Administration block. We continue sourcing for more funds for this.
  4. -We did a good facelift of the school classrooms, labs and the administration block. Floor tiles were put in the principal’s office and equipped the staffroom and the school’s science labs.
  5. -We have constructed a bakery whose operation begins in January 2011.This will save the school money and students time. A school canteen will be opened soon to cater for the whole school community.
  6. We are in the process of constructing a fish pod. Launching of this will be done soon.
  7. -We managed to buy two pigs for the school. This has assisted us in managing our waste in the kitchen. The pigs and cows wastes are in the process of being developed for bio-gas for use in school.
  8. -Energy savings is our commitment also. We have started electrical rewiring and separation of lighting points for the security, classrooms, dormitories and kitchen by installing safety breaker switches and energy saving bulbs. The project is expected to be completed by mid-January 2011.

d) TeamworkWe treasure creativity and initiative and champion teamwork and empowerment. On this areas we have done the following:-

  1. Students and board of Governors joint lunch
  2. Students, B.O.G, teachers open interaction.
  3. Parents, B.O.G, open interaction.
  4. Old boys, B.O.G, stakeholders open interaction.
  5. Students retreats.
  6. Teachers retreats.
  7. Teachers retreat sponsored by the B.O.G.
  8. Non-teaching staff retreat sponsored by the B.O.G.

This has tremendously improved team work and sense of responsibility.

e) RespectWe endeavor to show esteem for, or a sense of the worth or excellence of each person and appreciate each person’s quality and ability. We have therefore helped to identify bright and needy students and solicited for their sponsorship.

Therefore several boys school fees are being paid for by individuals they do not know. Culture and background is not a subject in our school. Boys of different cultures and background join the school and some are on Christian based organizations sponsorship. We will continue marketing ourselves to look for help for our needy boys especially through bursary.

For those who would want to assist any needy child, please get in touch with us.

f) AccountabilityWe strive to be transparent in all our school affairs.

  1. We have developed strict accounting procedures.
  2. Fees collected has been put into proper use and systems.
  3. Any major projects has been communicated to parents for their approval.
  4. Our suppliers’ confidence has been enhanced and their payments made promptly.
  5. The image of the school has improved.
  6. B.O.G employees’ salary has been paid promptly.
  7. We did plant over 2,000 trees in our compoung.
  8. Our boys have excelled well both in the field competitions and academics
Our standard is set to improve this year.

I would want to once again take this opportunity to thank the following:

  1. -Students – for maintaining discipline throughout the year and showing a lot of interest in improving their academic performance.
  2. -Teachers – for assisting the boys complete the syllabus in good time and giving them enough time for revision.
